But beyond the 14 signings Danny Cowley made, there was also a huge number of players linked with a move to Fratton Park who ended up elsewhere.
We’ve steered clear of the ridiculous number of triallists who came into the club when they returned to training – otherwise the list would’ve been through the roof...

13. Jayden Stockley
The former Pompey striker, who scored one goal in 12 appearances, was strongly linked with a move to Fratton Park. It seemed Stockley had returned to the blues in June, but Charlton hijacked the move at the 11th. Stockey spent the second half of last season at Charlton on loan from Preston and so far this season has scored twice in five games. Photo: Ashley Western

14. Matt Butcher
In July reports stated Pompey had enquired about the Denmead born 24-year-old, who plays for Accrington. The former Bournemouth Academy player starred for Stanley last season, as the midfielder helped John Coleman's side finish 11th in League One last season. This season the central midfielder has grabbed two goals in six appearances for Stanley in League One. Photo: Alex Pantling

15. Jack Tucker
In June Pompey reportedly put in a £200,000 bid for the Gillingham centre-back, but was promptly turned down as the Kent club would only listen to offers closer to the £1 million region. The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Priestfield and has made a total of 94 appearances in four years. This season Tucker has started all five of Gillingham's League One games scoring one goal, but has yet to keep a clean sheet. Photo: Justin Setterfield

16. Shane Ferguson
In June, January target, Shane Ferguson announced he was leaving Millwall. Pompey were keen on the left midfielder in January but no deal was agreed. Ferguson had called time at Millwall in the summer after making 193 appearances in five years for the Lions. Although Pompey were interested in the winger, they didn't push for a deal and the 30-year-old signed for League One rivals Rotherham, where he has played four games this season.
