But what does the future hold for those who see their existing deals come to a close?
We’ve assessed the likely outcomes for those who see their contracts at an end this term.

9. Louis Thompson
Put long-standing injury issues to bed with 38 appearances last term, but this term has been decimated by the broken leg he suffered in August. Come right back into it over the past three games under John Mousinho, with the head coach stating talks over a deal are on the backburner. Mousinho will have a good look at the midfielder between now and the summer, but the thought is he's not necessarily the profile of player Pompey are looking at. Verdict: Go. Photo: Jason Brown

10. Jayden Reid
Suffered such cruel misfortune after being the victim of back-to-back serious knee injuries. After rehabbing well from the first setback, the winger looked strong in pre-season and had lost none of his pace. The hope has to be for the former Manchester United talent to get back in pre-season and Mousinho to have a good look at him with a view to the path forward. Verdict: Stay. Photo: Portsmouth FC

11. Dan Gifford
On a third year scholar agreement, the striker has been out loan at Bognor since the end of November - and has bagged 10 goals. Had some first-team squad involvement against Ipswich in the Papa John's Trophy. He's not ready for the first team, but the 19-year-old still has time to develop. Verdict: Stay. Photo: Simon Davies

12. Michael Jacobs
Been a talisman for Pompey with good things invariably happening when the winger is in the side. The issue with Jacobs, of course, is his fitness record which led to a deal being agreed based around appearances last summer. Looks like the time may be right for all parties to move on. Would be no surprise to see the 31-year-old return to hometown club Northampton. Verdict: Go. Photo: Jason Brown
