‘Not many better midfielders. Colossal. Cult hero’: Exciting Derby County verdict over Ebou Adams ahead of '£500,000' Portsmouth move
Pompey are closing in on Derby County midfielder Ebou Adams as their second January signing.
Derby County supporters have taken to social media to give an insight into what Pompey can expect from Ebou Adams.
The Blues are closing in on a deal for the 29-year-old, who is set for a medical on the south coast before sealing a permanent switch for a reported £500,000 fee.
The News understands the powerhouse midfielder is expected to become the second incoming in three days at Fratton Park following the loan signing of Millenic Alli on Wednesday.
It’s believed Adams is the missing ingredient in John Mousinho’s engine room, a position they’ve been looking to fill following the season-ending injury to Mark Kosznovszky in December.
The former Cardiff City man spent two-and-a-half years at Pride Park, where he amassed 89 appearances as well as winning League One promotion in 2024 and finished as the Rams’ Player of the Season in the Championship last term.
And Derby supporters have expressed their disappointment at potentially seeing the Gambia international depart - and revealed what Pompey can expect from their soon-to-be midfielder.
Derby County verdict over imminent Pompey signing Ebou Adams
@jamielev: Got us up and kept us up. Won’t be forgotten. Had the captaincy ripped off him in favour of a guy who’s never even played for the club. Course it was gonna effect his performances. He should leave with nothing but good things said about him. A great person as well.
@Krs0774: This one hurts. I know he’s probably not the best at everything and with better players ahead of him it was inevitable. But Ebou will forever be a legend at the club. Etched in history along some absolute greats.
@dcfcpete82: Goes into the 'cult hero' category for me, vital in getting us back to the Champ and staying there, and absolutely loved his work off the ball, always gave it 100%, and what a character!! But long term probably the right move for all involved, wish him nothing but the best.

@ktownniko: This breaks my heart. I can’t argue that his ability sometimes lets him down, but his passion, commitment and personality are second to none. Played a pivotal role in our promotion from league 1 and survival. Thank you, Ebou.
@Huxyton: He’s been nothing but colossal for us. We all know his limitations now we are trying to play a different way, but I think this is a fantastic signing for Pompey in a relegation scrap. Go well, Ebou.
@kvdcfc: One of those players who’d put everything on the line for us Will absolutely miss this guy
@Jamesdcfc008: Great signing for Pompey as a relegation threatened side will suit them to a tee. Sad to see him go but just not good enough for us at the moment unfortunately.
@JK_dcfc: One of the main reasons we are where we are today. Definitely one of my favourites to ever play for Derby, gives absolutely everything and is just such a good bloke. Probably the right time, but will definitely miss Ebou and I’m very sad now it’s happening.
@Dominic__96: Nooooo, goodbye legend. Dragged us out of L1 and was a big reason we stayed up last season too. Not many better midfielders in the league out of possession. Happy he’s going to a good club and not dropping to L1 or 2. Look after him Pompey fans.
@Guardthebee: Didn't expect him to leave this season, still thought he had a a part to play. But what a signing he's been for us, an absolute grafter and tremendously popular guy. All the best Ebou.
