Portsmouth transfer news: Pompey have offer 'accepted' for Derby midfielder - medical planned ahead of Sheffield Wednesday game
Pompey are reportedly closing in on their second signing of the January transfer window
Pompey have had an offer accepted for Derby midfielder Ebou Adams, according to reports.
Two days after completing a loan deal for Luton Town forward Millenic Alli, Football Insider transfer guru Pete O’Rourke claims the Blues have quickly turned their attention to reinforcing John Mousinho’s engine room.
That has seen them make an approach for 30-year-old Adams - a move that has been welcomed by the Rams.
Indeed, O’Rourke claims Pompey’s bid for a player, who has 18 months left on his Pride Park contract, has been accepted. Talks on personal terms will now be accelerated, with a medical also scheduled to take place.
Who is Ebou Adams?
Derby’s player of the year last season, Adams has been a key player for the Rams following his move from Cardiff, initially on loan, in January 2024.
After the Pride Park side made his loan into a permanent move in the summer of 2024 for £500,000, the Gambia international made 42 league starts last season and scored six goals as Derby finished 19th.
The team vice-captain has also made 26 appearances in all competitions this term, with 16 of those coming as Championship starts.
However, keen to build on an encouraging start to their 2025-26 campaign, Derby are prepared to let Adams go and have already reinforced their midfield with the signing of Denmark under-21 international Oscar Fraulo from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
A second Pompey arrival before Sheffield Wedesday?
A player who sporting director Rich Hughes will know from his time at Forest Green, Adams looks set to become Pompey’s second signing of the transfer window.
Loanee Alli arrived on Tuesday and is in contention to feature at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. That’s a game the Blues wanted reinforcements signed before.
Pompey will have until midday today to register Adams if he is to feature in that important g ame at Hillsborough.
At present, the Blues midfield options for the test at the Owls is Andre Dozzell, Marlon Pack and Luke Le Roux. Mark Kosznovszky is unavailable after he picked up a season-ending knee injury against Charlton last month.
Midfield was always an area the club would look to bolster for the second half of the season.
