League One big-spenders Sheffield Wednesday ‘in talks’ with £1m Aston Villa man after Portsmouth summer links

Pompey, Oxford United and Huddersfield Town were linked with £1m Aston Villa midfielder Tommi O’Reilly earlier this summer.

Tommi O’Reilly was a name linked with Pompey in May as the rumour mill began to turn ahead of the summer window.

National reports suggested the Blues were monitoring the 22-year-old after collecting 21 goal contributions for the Raileywaymen in League Two, including seven goals and 14 assists in 51 outings.

Sheffield Wednesday in talks with £1m Pompey-linked man

The versatile attacker, who can operate either as a number 10 or on the wing, is reportedly in talks with Sheffield Wednesday as they prepare for life in the third tier.

Transfer guru Alan Nixon has claimed the Owls have opened discussions with Aston Villa over the England youth international as Henrik Pedersen looks to bolster his arsenal.

The League One new-boys have a good relationship with Villa, having already secured the permanent signings of attacker Louie Barry and defender Sil Swinkels.

And it looks like Wednesday will be looking to do business with the Premier League outfit once again, with O’Reilly closing in on a switch to Hillsborough.

The one-time Pompey-linked forward is expected to become the 10th new arrival in the Steel City this summer as the Owls prepare for life in the third tier.

Pedersen’s side, of course, finished bottom of the Championship last term, finishing on zero points despite being handed an 18-point deduction due to financial issues.

But Sheffield Wednesday have wasted no time conducting business this summer, which includes the eye-catching signings of Aston Villa’s Barry, Millwall duo Billy Mitchell and Barry Bannan, along with the capture of Swansea City’s Ricardo Santos.

Although O’Reilly wasn’t on the Blues’ radar earlier this summer, John Mousinho is still looking to bolster his attacking ranks during the window.

Young winger Eoin Kenny remains the only arrival in the forward department so far, although that is expected to change with the imminent signing of Marko Milovanovic.

Injuries continue to hamper the attack at present, though, with the Blues managing Franco Umeh and Josh Murphy’s fitness, while Keshi Anderson is set to miss three months with a quad issue.

The 22-year-old still has two years remaining on his current MKM Stadium terms, with a switch dependent on finding common ground with the Tigers over a fee.
