Portsmouth, Oxford United and Huddersfield told £1m will get them Premier League hotshot with 21 goal involvements
Tommi O’Reilly is a reported transfer target of Pompey as they look to rebuild for another season at Championship level
Pompey will need to stump up around £1m if they are to retain their reported interest in Tommi O’Reilly.
According to The Daily Mail, that’s the price tag Aston Villa will be seeking for the 22-year-old, who is currently starring on loan at Crewe Alexandra in League Two.
Reporter Simon Jones also claims the Premier League side are open to doing business with any club willing to fork out that sort of money as they look to bolster Unai Emery’s transfer funds ahead of the summer.
O’Reilly is apparently under consideration by the Blues following an impressive campaign for the Railywaymen in the fourth tier while on loan from Villa Park.
The young forward, who can play either right wing or in the No10 position, has 21 goal involvements in all competitions this season, including seven goals and 11 assists in League Two.
He has already been named Crewe’s player of the year and is set to make an incredible 46th league start for the Gresty Road side when they play host to Cambridge United on the final day of the season today.
Those stats have brought the 2021 FA Youth Cup winner with Villa to the attention of many clubs, with Oxford United and Huddersfield Town, who will both be operating in League One next season, also reportedly keen.
Pompey’s need for right-wing reinforcements
Pompey will be keen to strengthen their right-wing options during the summer transfer window - a role O’Reilly has fulfilled for the majority of this season for Crewe.
At present, John Mousinho has the likes of Gustavo Caballero (loan), Harvey Blair, Franco Umeh and Adrian Segečić at his disposal to operate in that wide attacking right role.
However, only Segečić, who refers to play in the No10 role, has provided the consistenty needed to hold down a place in the position this season - and the fitness.
There’s also doubts about whether Caballero, Blair and Segecic will be at Fratton Park next term.
Loanee Caballero's Blues future hangs on whether Pompey can successfully renegotiate his transfer fee with Santos.
Former Liverpool winger Blair continues to frustrate amid ongoing injury issues. Meanwhile, transfer interest in Segečić is mounting after a big end-of-season impact at Pompey.
