‘I’m not your typical player’: The big billing on exciting powerhouse chased by Portsmouth as transfer activity accelerates

Pompey are pursuing UD Almeria striker Marko Milovanovic.

Marko Milovanovic has branded himself as a ‘dangerous’ and ‘hungry’ striker as Pompey eye a move for the UD Almeria talent.

The Serbian youth international bagged 10 goals in 32 appearances during a successful loan stint with FC Alverca, which has alerted John Mousinho’s Championship side.

That figure falls short of the Spanish outfit’s valuation of the frontman, known more commonly as ‘Marezi’, but the Blues are expected to up their offer.

Personal terms are not believed to be an issue, with the former Partizan Belgrade man desperate to ply his trade at Fratton Park.

Milovanovic has spent four years with Almeria, where appearances varied as he continued his development into senior football.

But ‘Marezi’ is full of confidence, as shown in an honest interview with Spanish radio in 2024, where the striker detailed his qualities and expressed his love for scoring goals.

He said: ‘I’m doing well. Training and preparing for the next match.

‘I’m twenty years old, very young, and I always like to work hard. I think I’m much better now than when I arrived almost two years ago, but I’m going to show everything I have.

‘I’m a striker, and my best quality is scoring goals. But I can also run, jump, and fight.

‘I’m hungry to play, and I can contribute a lot to the team. I’m very fast for my height, and I can be dangerous in many ways.

‘I’ve always had that quality, but everything improves with daily work, and I’ve improved a lot.

‘I’m not your typical player, and it’s not easy to put me in. I think the coach must have said that.

‘I much prefer playing from the start, and I think I always play better when I start. I need time. That’s normal for all players.

‘I like being in the box, but now I play for a team that doesn't dominate possession, and you have to drop back to play, to get on the ball. If you wait, no ball will come to you.

‘I live for goals, I’m a striker and I feel great, with much more confidence and that’s very important for me.’

John Mousinho’s attacking options

Pompey are looking to bolster their arsenal this summer after goalscoring troubles in the Championship last term.

Colby Bishop netted three league goals in 38 appearances, while Makenzie Kirk appeared on the scoresheet just once in 17 outings.

The Northern Ireland youth international is expected to depart on loan this summer, while Thomas Waddingham is poised to remain at Fratton Park as he bids to avoid any injury issues.
