John Mousinho is hoping to bolster his frontline during the summer window as he assembles his latest Championship squad.
The head coach’s attacking issues were laid bare once more in a pre-season friendly against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, with a number of familiar faces featuring in unfamiliar positions.
Amid injuries to Franco Umeh, Josh Murphy and Keshi Anderson, the Blues ended the 3-1 defeat with a makeshift team in order to give members of the squad precious game time.
This saw central defender Ibane Bowat finish the fixture playing on the left wing, while trialilst Arvin Appiah featured on both the left and right wing at Adams Park.
The 23-year-old has been touted with a return to PO4 during the window as his future with Hull City remains uncertain.
As the Blues’ issues out wide continue to hamper their plans, we’ve taken a look at every player who has appeared on the wing at Fratton Park since their return to the Championship in 2024.
Here are all those names - with some more surprising than others.
9. Matt Ritchie
Ritchie was a mainstay on the right-wing from November 2024 until the end of the campaign, playing a key role in the Blues' change in form. After a disagreement with Mousinho over his potential involvement the following season, the 36-year-old subsequently joined Reading last summer - but has since called time on his playing career. | Jason Brown/ProSportsImages

10. Franco Umeh
Injury has restricted the Irishman to just 45 minutes of action across two outings for the Blues following his deadline day arrival in September 2025. Mousinho has since revealed the right-winger will miss the start of the season due to a fresh groin issue. | Pro Sports Images

11. Jacob Brown
Largely utilised off the bench during the second half of last term and often featured on the right wing. The versatile forward couldn't help the Blues' goalscoring issues and netted just once in his 15 outings. | Pro Sports Images
12. Terry Devlin
The Northern Irishman has solidified his spot at right-back but during the 2024-25 campaign was called upon to slot in on the wing on several occasions by Mousinho. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
