Reported Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic target missing for League One side again as speculation mounts

Pompey are believed to be on the trail of Burton Albion attacker Tyrese Shade

Reported Pompey target Tyrese Shade was missing for Burton Albion once again as speculation over his future mounts.

The 26-year-old has been the subject of strong Championship interest ahead of the window’s climax as clubs continue to circle.

And Shade, who can operate across the front-line, is believed to be on the radar of the football operations at Fratton Park after a standout season at the Pirelli Stadium.

Charlton Athletic are also reportedly interested, while Lincoln City are said to have had multiple £2m rejected this summer, with the St Kitts and Nevis international expected to depart.

Having missed the Brewers’ opening two matches against Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup and Stevenage in League One, head coach Gary Bowyer admitted he would make a call on the forward’s availability for their trip to Leicester City on Saturday.

But with uncertainty growing over his future, Shade was once again missing for Burton having been left out of the matchday squad for their 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium on the weekend.

This means the frontman has failed to appear since news of apparent Championship interest emerged earlier this month.

Burton Albion’s Tyrese Shade stance amid Pompey interest

Following his switch from Eastleigh in July 2025, Shade netted 14 goals in all competitions during his maiden campaign at the Pirelli Stadium, with his form alerting a number of second-tier clubs.

But as he enters the final 12 months of his current Burton deal, the head coach is anticipating late transfer activity involving the prolific striker.

Speaking earlier this month about whether Shade would still be at the club at the end of the window, Bowyer said: ‘No. No I wouldn’t have thought so.

‘If you look at the strikers in League One (that have left this summer), (Lorent) Tolaj gone (to Bristol City from Plymouth Argyle), (Dom) Ballard gone (to Bristol City from Leyton Orient) and there have been others.

‘So there’s not many top, top strikers left (in League One) and he’s a top, top striker in my opinion, who has got the ability to go higher.

‘I look forward to receiving several bids in the next three weeks or so.

‘We’re going to have to replace him and still bring in another one, maybe two in as well in that position (to fill the void should he depart). There’s a lot of work to do.’
