Burton Albion boss makes clear transfer admission on reported Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic target as interest grows

Pompey have been linked with a move for Burton Albion attacker Tyrese Shade this summer along with Championship rivals Lincoln City and Charlton Athletic.

Burton Albion boss Gary Bowyer doesn’t expect reported Pompey target Tyrese Shade to remain at the Pirelli Stadium beyond the summer window.

And the head coach is hopeful of receiving bids for the in-demand 26-year-old in order to bolster his ranks in the final weeks of the market.

Pompey are reportedly on the trail of the attacker this summer as John Mousinho looks to strengthen his armoury following the injury to Thomas Waddingham earlier this month.

The Aussie suffered a serious ankle setback against West Ham in the first round of the Carabao Cup and is set to miss at least 6-10 weeks of action - should he not require surgery.

Shade certainly ticks the bill and can operate across the front-line, with his preferred position as a number nine.

Indeed, the Burton talent netted 14 goals in all competitions in his maiden campaign with the Brewers following his switch from Eastleigh 12-months ago.

It is believed Mousinho’s men have Shade on their radar along with Charlton Athletic, while Lincoln City are said to have had multiple £2m bids rejected during the window.

And Bowyer is anticipating a hectic climax to the window as Championship interest reportedly intensifies over his star man.

Burton Albion boss provides exciting transfer update on reported Pompey target

When asked by BBC Radio Derby whether he expects to have Shade in his ranks at the end of the summer, the head coach said: ‘No. No I wouldn’t have thought so.

‘If you look at the strikers in League One (that have left this summer), (Lorent) Tolaj gone (to Bristol City from Plymouth Argyle), (Dom) Ballard gone (to Bristol City from Leyton Orient) and there have been others.

‘So there’s not many top, top strikers left (in League One) and he’s a top, top striker in my opinion, who has got the ability to go higher.

‘I look forward to receiving several bids in the next three weeks or so.

‘We’re going to have to replace him and still bring in another one, maybe two in as well in that position (to fill the void should he depart). There’s a lot of work to do.’

Shade missed Burton’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup last week before remaining absent for the Brewers League One opening-day draw against Stevenage.

Bowyer admitted after their 2-1 loss against Rovers that Shade wasn’t risked after feeling his groin in training on the eve of the new campaign.

The head coach added: ‘His groin. (Shade) felt his groin a little bit so we’re not in a position to risk him.’
