Portsmouth rivals advancing in move for £9m Ipswich Town man as West Brom face new threat for Premier League ace

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.

Pompey fans remain on tenterhooks as the wait for the Blues’ next piece of business goes on.

John Mousinho has already recruited three new faces this summer, with Odin Bailey, Eoin Kenny and Rocco Shein sealing permanent switches.

Their recruitment drive looks set to continue as deals for Marko Milovanovic and Daniel Bielica are edging ever closer to a conclusion.

Departures will, though, be required to accommodate any new arrivals, with Mousinho anticipating some exits in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, gossip and speculation remains rife across the division as the Blues’ rivals zero in on potential targets.

Here are the latest transfer headlines from around the Championship.

Derby County advance on Ipswich Town capture

Derby County will have eyes on the play-offs next season after missing out on the top six by four points last term.

It was an impressive campaign at Pride Park, with John Eustace’s men securing an eighth-placed finish in their second season back in the Championship.

The Rams boss has wasted no time strengthening his ranks this summer in a bid to break into promotion contention next term, following the £6m capture of Bobby Clarke, and free-transfer arrivals of Charlie Taylor and Filip Bilbija.

Their spending looks set to continue, with a reunion with Ipswich Town attacker Sammie Szmodics on the cards, according to reports.

The East Anglian Daily Times’ Alex Jones has claimed Derby are in ‘advanced talks’ to re-sign the 30-year-old, who has been given the green light to depart Portman Road in the window.

The forward, of course, spent the second half of the campaign at Pride Park, collecting four goal contributions in 13 Championship outings.

Szmodics is free to leave Ipswich following their promotion to the Premier League, two years after his £9m move from Blackburn Rovers.

The Rams look to have fended off competition from fellow second-tier rivals Bristol City and Birmingham City, with the Tractor Boys hoping to secure a permanent exit for the Republic of Ireland international.

West Brom face a new threat in their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray, according to reports.

Transfer guru Steve Tudgay has claimed Wrexham and Stoke City have entered the race to land the 22-year-old, who could depart Selhurst Park this summer.

After a successful loan stint at Blackpool during the first half of last term, the right-back joined the Baggies in January, featuring 17 times during his temporary stay.

Imray was a regular under interim boss James Morrison, whose role has now become permanent after avoiding relegation at the end of the campaign.

The report states another loan exit will be likely for the defender, should the Eagles sanction a departure this summer.

But West Brom now face tough competition from their Championship rivals as they eye another reunion with the full-back.
