‘Risk losing out’: Portsmouth face Abu Kamara transfer blow as Championship rivals Charlton Athletic enter race

Pompey are known to be admirers of Abu Kamara this summer but could ‘risk losing out’ on the Hull City winger to potential suitors.

Pompey ‘risk losing out’ on Abu Kamara this summer, according to a fresh update from the Hull Daily Mail.

The Blues are interested in setting up a sensational Fratton Park homecoming for the winger, who enjoyed an outstanding loan stay during the League One title-winning campaign.

The 22-year-old looks set to depart the MKM Stadium this summer following the Tigers’ promotion to the Premier League.

Pompey ‘risk losing out’ on Abu Kamara in latest update

Hull are set to sanction an exit for Kamara during the window just two years after securing the forward in a £3.5m deal, with a further £1m in add ons.

Although Pompey remain interested, a new update in the north east suggests John Mousinho’s men could miss out on the London-born talent.

A fresh article from the Hull Daily Mail has claimed Charlton Athletic have entered the race to land the ex-Norwich City man as the pursuit heats up.

It is believed the Blues could ‘risk losing out’ to another suitor this summer if their interest doesn’t yield a move.

That would represent a major blow to Pompey’s transfer plans as they look to finally land the former Fratton favourite.

Pompey’s current interest in Hull City winger

There is confidence growing behind the scenes at PO4 that an exciting move to land the League One title winner can come to fruition this summer.

Any deal for the 22-year-old hinges on finding common ground with Hull over a fee for the player, who still has two years to run on his current terms.

The Blues have, of course, tried to land Kamara in previous windows after an outstanding loan stay during the successful 2023-24 campaign.

The England youth international netted 10 goals and collected 11 assists in all competitions as Mousinho’s troops secured a return to the Championship after a 12-year hiatus.

Although Pompey were looking to land the winger on a permanent basis from Norwich City that summer, Hull flexed their financial muscle to secure the Carrow Road academy graduate in a deal which rose to £4.5m after add ons.

He said: ‘Abu's a player we really like. The honest answer is I don't know at the minute.

‘There's a lot of moving parts. Hull have obviously been promoted, their sporting director’s left, so there's necessities to sort of go within.

‘But if there was an opportunity for us to explore, to try and bring Abu Kamara back, would we be interested? Yes, we absolutely would be.

‘There's probably a lot of bits that will go in place to try and make that a viable option. But if it was something we were able to explore as a football club, it would be something that we would pursue.’
