‘I’m not surprised’: West Ham midfielder Freddie Potts makes classy Portsmouth admission ahead of reunion
West Ham midfielder Freddie Potts is set to face his former side Pompey on August 8 in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Freddie Potts isn’t surprised the Fratton faithful have sold out their eye-watering 9,000 allocation for next month’s trip to West Ham.
And the midfielder has shared his thoughts on the new campaign as he prepares to become a regular operator in Nuno Espirito Santo’s Championship side.
The 22-year-old is bracing to face his former side on August 8, when John Mousinho’s troops kick-start the season with a maiden trip to the London Stadium.

Potts, of course, knows the Fratton faithful well, establishing himself as a firm favourite amongst supporters during a hugely-successful season-long loan during the 2024-25 campaign.
The West Ham youth product featured 38 times in all competitions for the Blues as they secured a 16th-placed finish on their return to the Championship.
With the classy operator set to come up against his former side for the first time since his 2025 departure, Potts has shared his excitement as he braces to see a number of familiar faces.
And the midfielder isn’t surprised with the outstanding backing Mousinho’s troops will receive at the London Stadium next month.
Speaking in an interview with the Hammers’ in-house media, he said: ‘It’s a really good start (to the season).
‘I know the Portsmouth fans are a real, real good fanbase and I think they’ve sold out their allocation (of 9,000). I’m not surprised because they do that at every away game.
‘It’s going to be good to see some familiar faces but obviously we want to win and get to the next round. It’ll be a very competitive game for sure.’
West Ham midfielder ready for Championship challenge

After his outstanding loan stay at Fratton Park, Potts worked his way into the first-team set-up in the Premier League last term under Graham Potter and Espirito Santo.
Potts knows all too well the challenges which his side now face in the second-tier next term and has made it clear he’ll be ready to make his mark once again.
‘It’s a tough league. People underestimate the league and there’s not really an easy game especially away.
‘There’s some tough crowds, some tight stadiums that you play at and I think every game is going to be tough this season.
‘We’ll go in favourites for a lot of the games, there’s a lot of expectation this season and we’re preparing well for it in pre-season.’
