Bristol City open to striker exit ahead of Portsmouth contest as Championship rivals plot Premier League move

The latest transfer headline involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.

It’s been a busy summer at Fratton Park as John Mousinho assembles his new-look Championship side.

The 25-year-old has penned a three-year deal on the south coast after making the move for an undisclosed fee.

He became the 10th new arrival at PO4 during the window, joining along with Odin Bailey, Rocco Shein, Eoin Kenny, Marko Milovanovic, Daniel Bielica, Abu Kamara, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and Benjy Arthur.

The Blues’ business is far from complete, with activity ramping up ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

At least two players could still come through the doors at Fratton, while departures are on the cards as Mousinho looks to trim his ranks.

Here are the latest transfer headlines involving the Blues’ second-tier rivals.

Striker set for Bristol City exit

Emil Riis will likely depart Bristol City ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, according to fresh reports.

Bristol Live have suggested the 28-year-old will be given the green light to depart Ashton Gate in the coming days after falling down Michael Skubala’s pecking order.

However, the report claims the striker will not be short of potential suitors, with a number of Championship clubs and European outfits all keen.

Riis appears to be out of the new head coach’s plans for the new campaign, with the Robins already splashing the cash to sign Lorent Tolaj and Dom Ballard in multi-million pound deals from Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient respectively.

The former Denmark youth international netted 12 goals in 49 appearances for Bristol City last term but could find his way out of the exit door before deadline day, despite two years still remaining on his current terms.

Riis, who has registered just 47 minutes of competitive action this season, could still be involved on Saturday as Mousinho’s troops visit Ashton Gate looking to continue their bright start to the campaign.

Burnley eye Tigers deal

Burnley have been credited with an interest in Hull City defender Ryan Giles.

The Clarets are reportedly plotting a late-window move for the full-back, who has been touted with a departure through the summer following the Tigers’ promotion to the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Nicky Hayen’s side ‘want’ to sign the 26-year-old before Tuesday’s deadline as the new head coach assembles his squad.

However, the report states Pompey’s Championship rivals will be made to wait if they pursue a deal, with no final decision by Hull regarding his long-term future.

Despite an excellent campaign at the MKM Stadium last term, Giles’ minutes in the top flight are under the microscope after the signing of Matt Targett earlier in the window.

During his three-and-a-half-year stay in the north east, the left-back has amassed 73 outings in all competitions for the Tigers - collecting nine assists.

Pompey will visit Burnley on October 31, with Hayen’s side hopeful of landing Giles before deadline day.
