After securing their survival in the Championship, Pompey will take on bitter rivals Southampton next season following their Premier League relegation.
It will represent the first meeting between the two south coast sides since 2019, with the Saints running out 4-0 winners in the Carabao Cup at Fratton Park.
At the time, the two outfits were in complete contrast with the Blues under the guidance of Kenny Jackett in League One, while Ralf Hassenhuttle’s men were in the top flight.
However both sides will meet in the league for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign.
With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at every player to have featured in both the Pompey blue and the red and white of Southampton in the 21st century.
Here are the 15 men to have done so.

9. Matthew Robinson
The left-back came through the ranks at The Dell and totalled 17 first-team appearances for the Saints. However, Robinson would make the move across the M27 to Fratton Park in February 1998 and featured 77 times before his January 2000 exit. | Getty Images

10. Antti Niemi
The Finnish goalkeeper played for Southampton between 2002 and 2006 and started in goal for the Saints in Pompey’s 4-1 demolition in April 2005. After a stint with Fulham, the keeper joined the Blues in 2009 but failed to feature at Fratton Park and was named on the bench just once during his 12-month stay. | Getty Images

11. John Beresford
Beresford arrived at Fratton Park in 1989 and would go on to play a key role in Pompey’s FA Cup semi-final run in 1992. During his three-year stay, he scored 10 goals in 132 appearances from defence before going on to have a successful career at Newcastle. The Saints would break their transfer record in 1998, signing the defender for £1.5m. However, the left-back only made 17 outings at St Mary’s before departing in 2001. | Getty Images

12. Nigel Quashie
The midfielder was instrumental in Pompey’s Division One title-winning campaign during the 2002-03 season. During his four-and-a-half year stay at Fratton Park, the former Scottish international registered 181 appearances for the Blues before departing in 2005. Quashie still divides opinions after he joined Southampton in a £2.1m move from PO4 in January 2005. He joined Redknapp at St Mary’s but wasn’t successful in keeping the Saints in the Premier League that term. | Getty Images
