The 2025 summer transfer window is officially under way, with Pompey expected to be busy throughout as they prepare for their second-successive Championship campaign.
Although John Mousinho isn’t expecting a huge influx of signings, there will be some changes to his squad with a number of departures on the cards with some contracted figures.
With the shutters coming up slightly later on July 1 for last summer’s window, Josh Murphy was the first addition after he completed a free transfer from Oxford United.
And that was a sign of things to come at PO4, with 14 new faces coming through the doors as Pompey headed into their first Championship campaign in 12 years.
But how did those new arrivals fare?
Well, we’ve graded every 2024 summer signing completed by the Blues to see which lessons could be learned heading into this window.

5. Jordan Archer
Was signed in July 2024 to provide competition to then number one Will Norris. The experienced stopper did what he was asked throughout the season and was called upon when Nicolas Schmid came off injured against Cardiff in October. Archer registered three appearances for Pompey in all competitions and will once again be Mousinho’s recognised number two. Signing rated 6/10. Photo: Jason Brown

6. Jacob Farrell
After arriving from Central Coast Mariners last July for an undisclosed fee, Farrell was expected to challenge Connor Ogilvie for the left-back spot. However, three MCL injuries would limit the Australian to just one appearance. But, he did show the Fratton faithful the quality which he possesses and there is hope for an injury-free campaign next term. Signing rated: 5/10. | Jason Brown/ProSportsImages

7. Sammy Silvera
He started four of Pompey’s first five games of the season as Mousinho looked to discover his best XI. But appearances would dry up for the on-long Middlesbrough man and he registered a further eight outings before being recalled in January. The final nail in the coffin was during the Blues’ 3-0 defeat to Bristol City in December, with chants of ‘send him back’ being heard from the away end. Silvera failed to score or assist in any of his 12 displays and spent the second half of the season on loan at Blackpool. Signing rated: 3/10. Photo: Jason Brown

8. Freddie Potts
The midfielder arrived in late August on loan from West Ham after an impressive season with Wycombe. It was an outstanding maiden Championship campaign for the 21-year-old, who was rewarded with a new long-term deal at the London Stadium mid-way through the season. He appeared 38 times for Mousinho’s men and was a joy to watch as he cemented his place in the heart of Pompey’s engine room. The Fratton faithful would love to see him back on the south coast next term, but after another successful loan stint, he could be fighting for a place in Graham Potter’s squad.
