The 2025 summer transfer window is officially under way, with Pompey expected to be busy throughout as they prepare for their second-successive Championship campaign.
Although John Mousinho isn’t expecting a huge influx of signings, there will be some changes to his squad with a number of departures on the cards with some contracted figures.
With the shutters coming up slightly later on July 1 for last summer’s window, Josh Murphy was the first addition after he completed a free transfer from Oxford United.
And that was a sign of things to come at PO4, with 14 new faces coming through the doors as Pompey headed into their first Championship campaign in 12 years.
But how did those new arrivals fare?
Well, we’ve graded every 2024 summer signing completed by the Blues to see which lessons could be learned heading into this window.

13. Andre Dozzell
After a slow start to life at Fratton Park, the midfielder was taken out of the team by Mousinho. Following a five-game absence, Dozzell didn’t look back and formed a key partnership with Potts in the heart of the midfield. His performances emphatically won over supporters, who initially questioned his free-transfer signing in August 2024. With Pompey staying up, Dozzell had a 12-month option triggered on his deal. 14. Ibane Bowat.
Signing on a permanent deal from Fulham for an undisclosed fee, the centre-back appeared on the bench just once as an unused substitute against Sunderland. A freak injury sustained in training would see Bowat ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after tearing the patellar tendon in his knee. The defender will return in pre-season and will be aiming to stay fit next term. Signing rated: 4/10. | Portsmouth FC

15. Josh Murphy
Murphy was Pompey’s first piece of business as they prepared for life back in the Championship. Signed on a free transfer from Oxford United, the winger was easily the Blues’ standout player and was voted The News’ Player of the Season. His contributions were vital in their survival bid, scoring seven goals and amassing 14 assists. Oozed with class and caused nightmares for Championship full-backs, with his darting pace and deadly crosses. Signing rated: 10/10. | Jason Brown/ProSportsImages
