The 17 included players whose contracts weren’t renewed, loanees returning to their parent clubs and assets attracting transfer fees for their sale.
Now, six months on, we look at how those players have fared in footballing life after Fratton Park...

13. Ryley Towler - Lincoln
(27 games, 0 goals) Sold to Lincoln in July for an undisclosed fee, Towler has finally been given the regular first-team football which eluded him in his final two seasons at Fratton Park. With the Imps flying high in second place in League One, the 23-year-old has started 11 of their league matches, including Sunday’s 5-2 victory over Peterborough. He has also collected nine bookings in his 19 League One outings so far, including five yellows in his opening seven appearances to earn a suspension in mid-September. Photo: Jason Brown

14. Rob Atkinson - Bristol City
(18 games, two goals) The central defender has been an automatic choice in Bristol City’s first-team when available since returning from a Pompey loan spell. There has been one injury absence, when Atkinson missed eight games from early November, yet he has still made 16 starts, including their 5-0 hammering of Pompey on New Year’s Day. Atkinson has been starting on the left of a back three consisting of Rob Dickie and Zak Vyner, although he was taken off after 54 minutes in Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat to Preston. Photo: Jason Brown

15. Kaide Gordon - Liverpool
(1 game, 0 goals) After returning to Liverpool, Gordon has gone on to feature for Arne Slot’s side in the Carabao Cup this season. The winger was introduced off the bench in the 67th minute during October’s 3-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, representing his seventh first-team outing overall. He has also played three times for Liverpool’s under-21 side in the EFL Trophy, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw at Chesterfield in November. However, Gordon tore his meniscus in December and is expected to have a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Photo: Paul Thompson

16. Mark O'Mahony - Reading
(21 games, 2 goals) On loan from Brighton, the 20-year-old has struggled for first-team starts at Reading, totalling just five in League One. Instead the striker has been employed primarily off the bench and, according to Reading fans on social media, has struggled to make a positive impact. O’Mahony was not without his injury problems during his time at Fratton Park and he hasn’t been included in five of the Royals’ last eight squads, including both of their January matches.
