After wins over Stevenage and Colchester in the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy respectively, the Blues’ latest promotion push will start at Fratton Park.
Kenny Jackett named a strong side in the 2-0 victory against Colchester on Tuesday, handing debuts to new-boys Cameron Pring and Callum Johnson.
A fast start in the third tier is required, with pressure on Jackett after last campaign’s play-off disappointment at Oxford.
Here's the team the Pompey boss looks likely to name as he bids to start the league season with three points...

9. Attacking midfield - Gareth Evans
Made a surprise return to the starting XI at the start of this season. Missed a couple of chances against Colchester but Kenny Jackett always feels he's a goal threat. Photo: Joe Pepler

10. Left wing - Ronan Curtis
Another who selects himself. Registered an assist against Colchester and will be one of Pompey's chief threats. Photo: Joe Pepler

11. Striker - John Marquis
Still slightly ahead of Ellis Harrison in the pecking order. Will be looking to hit the goal trail in his first league game of the season. Photo: Joe Pepler

12. Sub 1 - Duncan Turnbull
Alex Bass' injury means the American will get his first League One experience against the Shrews. Photo: Joe Pepler
