From Inter Milan, Benfica, Monaco and Manchester United to Celtic, Rangers, Porto and Gibraltar, all have formed friendly opposition over the last 25 years.
And here’s a look back at 18 of the most memorable opponents Pompey have faced in summer fixtures...

13. Fulham (H) - July 2010
Premier League Fulham were the opposition for newly-relegated Pompey in a fixture which doubled up as Linvoy Primus’ testimonial. A crowd of 6,685 turned out to watch Mark Wilson settle matters with the only goal in a 1-0 victory over the Cottagers. Primus started the match before being replaced in the 12th minute by Kanu. In turn, Kanu was substituted 16 minutes from time by an Academy youngster called Marlon Pack. Photo: Steve Reid

14. Monaco (A) - July 2005
Azar Karadas scored 24 hours after joining Pompey on loan from Benfica in a 2-2 draw with Monaco. The stall striker scored just 11 into his debut for Alain Perrin’s side, with Lomana Lualua also getting himself on the scoresheet in the fixture played at the neutral venue of Stade Didier Deschamps, Bayonne. Pompey had already faced Bordeaux days earlier on their French tour, losing 3-1, with Laurent Robert grabbing the consolation. Photo: Neal Simpson

15. Gibraltar (A) - July 2012
Michael Appleton’s men had the curious distinction of playing against a national side in the summer of 2012 - and on an artificial surface. However, they would be humiliated by a country which had still to be granted international status at that stage, suffering a 4-0 hammering in front of 1,400. Liam Walker would be the star of the show and later signed for Pompey, while the Blues side of Academy graduates and triallists consisted of Adam Webster, Jed Wallace, Ashley Harris, Brian Howard, Izale McLeod and Jon Harley. 16. Celtic (H) - July 10, 2002
Celtic represented Pompey’s first friendly of the 2002 pre-season ahead of a campaign which would see Harry Redknapp’s side earn promotion to the Premier League. New signings Hayden Foxe, Shaka Hislop, Arjan De Zeeuw all started, while Richard Hughes marked his debut by scoring, along with Linvoy Primus. However, Celtic ran out 3-2 winners through goals from Mohammed Sylla, Petta and Colin Healy in front of 11,553. (Picture not from game) Photo: Steve Reid
