Portsmouth100: Help us find 100 incredible young people to celebrate city's centenary
The News is asking for nominations to close the anniversary year with a special focus on our younger generations who are making a positive contribution to the city
The search is underway to find 100 young people to celebrate as part of Portsmouth’s centenary commemorations.

At the start of this anniversary year The News published a special supplement to shine the light on the top 100 people who had links to the city from the last 100 years. Among those honoured were stars from stage and screen, musicians, authors, community heroes and Pompey players.
At the time we pledged that having started the year looking back at the leaders of yesteryear we would finish Portsmouth100 by turning the spotlight on the young people who are making a contribution to the city now.
So today we are asking for people to nominate a young person who deserves our recognition.
Their achievement might be for the support they give to others or their local community. It might be through outstanding sporting, cultural or educational performance. They may already be entrepreneurs. Or it might be the way they have overcome adversity or shown leadership or personal development.
All we ask is for people to be aged 25 years or under and have a strong link to Portsmouth through being born or raised here, living here, educated here or working here. As part of our search we are closely working with Unloc, a Portsmouth-based social enterprise which empowers young people to become changemakers, entrepreneurs and leaders.

The News editor in chief Mark Waldron said: ‘We have thoroughly enjoyed what our city’s special anniversary year has brought us - from the fireworks launch on Southsea Common on a chilly New Year’s Day, to the roaring success of the Pride of Portsmouth lion trial to the events still to come.
‘The year has celebrated the city’s past but it is as much about looking with excitement to the future. We covered the history in our Top 100 People by saluting such greats as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Peter Sellers and James Callaghan. But now we want to focus on those young people who, in so many ways, make such a positive contribution to our city.’
How to nominate
To nominate someone, email [email protected] with the subject 100 Young People with the name of the person you are nominating, their date of birth, link to Portsmouth and a short description in 100 words of what makes them stand out.
To feature in the supplement we will need a picture of them. If your nominee is under the age of 18, we will need parent/guardian consent before their photograph can be included.
We cannot guarantee that everyone nominated will be included in the supplement which will be published later this year.
