Video - See the huge progress being made to create hundreds of homes at the old scrapyard site in Tipner

The transformation of the gateway site into Portsmouth continues

The first buildings are beginning to take shape at the former Pounds scrapyard which is being transformed into hundreds of new homes.

Housing association VIVID has been making great strides developing the well-known brownfield site of Tipner East in Portsmouth where it will build 835 new homes over the next five years.

This includes apartment blocks ranging from two-storeys to ten-storeys high, with the largest at the northern most point of the site descending down to the smallest which will mean existing residents in Stamshaw will not be hugely overshadowed by massive tower blocks.

Around 250 of the new homes allocated for affordable housing to rent and buy, with community facilities in place as well as land set aside for commercial uses, with businesses encouraged to become involved.

The first apartment block on the east of the site close to the old greyhound track can now be clearly seen with its roof now being put on, as well as work beginning on another block towards the centre of the site.

Key infrastructure is also in place at the new waterfront development, known as Victory Quay, including most of the new sea defences which will largely match the aesthetic of those already created along Hilsea Lines.
