Brendoncare Active April open day in Gosport gives the elderly tips on staying healthy

A day of activities meant that older people got the chance to get some exercise

A day of activities held by a charity helped give the elderly a taste of sedate exercise - as well as the chance to meet up with friends.

Hampshire charity Brendoncare invited people in Gosport to its Active April Open Day, which was aimed at helping older people to “stay active, connected and confident”.

Held on Monday, the free event at Brendoncare’s Gosport Community Hub at the Anchorage saw activities such as seated exercise taster sessions, tips for staying steady and strong and a short mat bowls competition, as well as money skills and guidance from the Citizens Advice Bureau and expert guests on hand. It was part of the Hampshire Live Longer Better initiative.

Rachel Webber, Brendoncare’s south-east Hampshire locality manager, said: “Active April Open Day is all about helping to improve people’s quality of life in some exciting and informative ways.
