Sponsored walk to support Gosport children living in temporary accommodation

Volunteering group Community Spirit is inviting people to step out for a good cause, with a sponsored walk to raise funds for children living in temporary accommodation in Gosport.

The three-mile walk will take place on Sunday April 26, starting at Falkland Gardens at 2pm and finishing at Stoke Road. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome to take part or support the walk by making a donation.

Funds raised will go towards providing children currently living in temporary accommodation with tickets to local attractions during the summer holidays. Families may be living in temporary accommodation for reasons such as lack of housing, changes in the private renting sector, domestic abuse and poverty.

Organisers hope to raise £500 to help give families a chance to enjoy days out and create positive experiences during a challenging time.

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive of Community First, said: “It’s fantastic to see our Community Spirit group organise this event. We’ve seen confidence grow in many of the participants since starting with us.

“This will be a great opportunity to join a fun event and support a meaningful cause. We hope to see lots of Gosport locals join in the walk or supporting the walkers on route. Of course anyone from outside the Borough is welcome to come along!”

Community Spirit is run by charity Community First and supports people to build confidence, meet new people and play an active role in their community. The group offers inclusive, supported volunteering opportunities such as stewarding, gardening, litter picking and fundraising.

The group is open to people with disabilities, mental health challenges, or those facing barriers to work or volunteering.
