Powder Monkey Brewing Co. celebrates fifth birthday with free festival this weekend

Community invited to event with live music, street food and craft beer

A popular brewery is celebrating its fifth birthday with a free festival featuring live music, street food and the launch of an exclusive birthday beer.

Powder Monkey Brewing Co. is holding the event at its Gosport Taphouse from 12pm onwards on Saturday, July 11. The independent brewery has grown from strength to strength over the past five years including expanding internationally to Australia.

However, the brewery wanted the celebrations to be where the company started with the local community invited down for a day of fun activities.

Mark Hamblin, head brewer for Powder Monkey, said: “This birthday is about more than celebrating five years of brewing—it's about celebrating the community that's helped us get here.

“We've grown a lot over the last five years, but Gosport will always be home. We wanted to bring everyone together for a proper birthday party with great beer, fantastic local food, live music and a brilliant atmosphere. It's our way of saying thank you to everyone who's supported us along the way.”

As well as the launch of the birthday beer, there will be live performances from local bands Vint-Age and Blink Daze, barbecue from Sheehan's Smokehouse, family activities on the green, face painting and games, and the chance to try cornhole with the Solent Cornhole Club.

The event will run into the evening and be finished before England’s World Cup match against Norway which kicks off at 10pm. The brewery wanted to thank the local businesses, musicians and organisations that have made the festival possible.

Mark said: "We're incredibly grateful to Vint-Age, Blink Daze, Sheehans Smokehouse, the Solent Cornhole Club and everyone else who's giving their time and talent to help make this a memorable celebration.

“Events like this only happen because local businesses and community groups come together, and we're proud to be able to showcase them alongside our own birthday celebrations."
