Powder Monkey Group strengthens leadership team as brewery expansion continues with new non-executive director
A brewery group is continuing its expansion
A brewery has hit a major milestone as it appoints a new leader as part of its continued expansion.
Powder Monkey Group has announced the appointment of experienced business leader Andy Higginson as its new non-executive director, who will support the company’s continued growth across brewing, hospitality and international markets.
The appointment comes during a major period of expansion for Powder Monkey Group, which has added seven breweries to its portfolio during 2025 while continuing to grow its wholesale and hospitality operations both in the UK and overseas.

Mr Higginson has more than 40 years of experience across retail, finance, strategy and consumer brands. He spent 15 years at Tesco plc, serving as group finance director and chief executive of retailing services.
He has also chaired several companies including JD Sports Fashion plc, William Morrison Supermarkets plc and N Brown Group, and he said has been impressed by the company’s growth journey and long-term vision.
“I’ve been watching Powder Monkey’s growth over the last three years and the strategy has been impressive despite the markets. I have made a significant financial investment into this business as I can see where this team can go with it”, he explained.
The business recently opened significant new brewing capacity in South West Sydney, and it confirmed it remains in active discussions with organisations across Asia, the United States and Europe as it explores future expansion opportunities.
Mike McGeever, Powder Monkey Group chairman, said: “We are delighted to welcome Andy to the Board. His experience, strategic insight and understanding of growing consumer brands will be hugely valuable as Powder Monkey continues to expand both in the UK and internationally.”
Andy Burdon, Group CEO, welcomed Andy at the Group’s Durham site, said: “We’re delighted Andy is joining the Board. His past experience speaks volumes about how his appointment will help Powder Monkey steer continued growth across a number of routes to market.”
