Uplands House Care Home in Fareham has CQC turnaround with rating of good after previously being placed in special measures

‘I wouldn’t change anything about the home. I am treated with dignity and respect’

A care home which was previously placed in special measures has received a rating of good in an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Uplands House Care Home on 61 Park Lane, Fareham, was handed a warning notice in June 2022 to ensure patients received safe care with a follow up visit in October 2022 seeing it placed in special measures.

However, following a visit by inspectors from the CQC between July 7 and 24, 2026, it has been found that improvements have been made with one resident saying “I am treated with dignity and respect”. The inspectors highlighted that the provider was “highly motivated to maintain a high level of care to people”.

In 2022 it was found that improvement was required to keep people protected from abuse and avoidable harm. This is an area that has had a turnaround with the care home described as having a “positive and proactive” culture of safety based on “openness and honesty”.

This tallied with the experience of resident's themselves. The residential care home has 22 people living there and specialises in providing mental health support.

One person living at the home told inspectors: “I wouldn’t change anything about the home. I am treated with dignity and respect.”

Another person said: “I have a voice. I speak up in the weekly community meetings.”

While another added: “There are lots of activities available since the activities co-ordinator has been in post.”

The changes have also been noticed by relatives of residents at the care home with some of them telling inspectors that they felt their loved ones were safe living in the home.

The report lists one relative as telling the CQC inspectors: “Our relative’s privacy and dignity is respected. Staff knock on the door and gain consent before providing care. They are aware of my relative’s preferences. We are 100 per cent happy with the care provided.”

Another relative told them: “Our relative was very reluctant to move to this home as they do not like change. The home was thoughtful and had the walls painted in our relative’s favourite colour and their favourite bed linen was put on the bed to make it feel homely, we were impressed.

“Initially, our relative was adamant they wanted to return to live with us, but now they wish to stay living at Uplands House.”

The report stated that people were protected and kept safe, staff were recruited safely and received the appropriate training and supervision, while staff ensured that care was delivered to meet individual needs.
