Situated next to an existing Lidl and McDonald’s in Waterloo Park the project has drawn criticism and concerns since plans were submitted to Havant Borough Council in 2021.
Readers reacting to the news of the works beginning shared their frustration with much of the ire focussed on the Costa opening. It will be the third Costa in the area with one already open in the town centre and another in Wellington Retail Park.
One reader commented: “A third Costa in Waterlooville, an Aldi opposite a Lidl, what’s the point?”
Another reader said “another Costa?!” while someone else posted “there is literally another Costa across the road”.
Costa was not the only issue highlighted though with others concerned with the increased traffic in the area and the lack of anything entertaining for young people in the area.
