There are so many fun, cool, quirky and unusual places to visit and see in Portsmouth from range from historic monuments to stunning viewpoints - as well as (or course) fabulous attractions.
These are just a few of our favourites:

17. Lord Nelson Column
Found at the top of Portsdown Hill at the junction of Portsdown Hill Road, Monument Lane and Nelson Lane, the column was originally intended to mark Royal Naval victories but not enough money was raised until Lord Nelson himself supported the project and a second proposal put forward. After his death, a third version of the proposed monument and it was placed to act as a Seamark for vessels coming into Portsmouth Harbour. Oh, and you get a pretty good view of the city from here as well. Photo: Google maps

18. The navy's oldest vessel still in commission
HMS Victory is the current ceremonial flag ship of the Royal Navy, and is considered the 'First Sea Lord's Flagship'. It is a 104-gun first-rate wooden sailing ship of the line. With 247 years of service as of 2025, she is the world's oldest naval vessel still in commission. She is currently undergoing some much-needed TLC but you can either see her from the outside for free with a visit to the historic dockyard or go on one of the tours currently on offer. | Chris Moorhouse

19. The Portsea Lion
The golden lion sculpture has been carefully restored by artist Pete Codling and can be found at the front of the Treadgold Industrial Heritage Museum in Bishop Street. The cobbled street itself is full of character as well, with Treadgolds - in the midst of a regeneration - opposite the historic Mitre Court House which was once the former stable block associated with Treadgolds. One the site of the building some stunning street art of a poppy to commemorate the first and second world wars. | The News/Sam Stephenson Photo: The News/Sam Stephenson
