New music festival Pompey Summer Sounds makes debut this summer to showcase city talent

Introducing Pompey Summer Sounds - a new music festival

Homegrown music will be taking centre stage this summer as a new festival launches in the city.

The brand-new Pompey Summer Sounds festival, which will take place on a giant stage in front of the Guildhall on Sunday, July 19, will feature nine music acts from the city and a host of DJs.

The event, which is being presented by The Guildhall Trust, will take place between midday and 8pm, and will showcase a range of music genres from indie-rock, pop and rap.

Programmed by well-known organisations on the local music scene, Word of Mouth and LMSUK, Pompey Summer Sounds will be the finale of a special centenary series of concerts in Guildhall Square supported by Portsmouth City Council to celebrate 100 years of Portsmouth’s city status.

Matt Stevens, founder of Word of Mouth said: “Over the past few years, Word of Mouth has grown beyond a Hip-Hop focus, though it still remains close to our hearts.

“The launch of The Portsmouth Music Awards has given us the chance to work closely with artists and creatives across a huge range of genres, build relationships and become fans of the scene as a whole.

“Pompey Summer Sounds brings a community of music lovers together and gives us the opportunity to offer an unforgettable experience for some of our finest grassroots musicians. We are grateful to be involved and cannot wait to have a Proppa Pompey party with everyone.”

Other concerts scheduled in the centenary series are The Best of Williams & Zimmer and a Smash Hits – The 80s party performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra on July 17 and 18.

Josh Robinson, CEO of LMSUK said: “We work with musicians all over the world, but Portsmouth is home and that means everything to us.

“RecFest started because we wanted local artists to have a real festival experience, not just an open mic night.

“Pompey Summer Sounds is cut from the same cloth - it's about giving this city's incredible talent the platform it deserves. We're proud to be involved, and if we can give even one artist their first big stage moment this summer, that's exactly why we do what we do."

Pre-announcement tickets will cost £10.
