From Comic Con to the kite festival, from the Great South Run to Beach Dubbin, there are plenty to choose from - with the city also expected to play its part in commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Many more dates will be added to our calendars in the coming months as more and more event details are confirmed, but here are some of the biggest and best events we are most looking forward to this year:

21. Bonfire and fireworks
Fantastic fireworks displays will be had in the city and surrounding areas - include the huge display at HMS Sultan - to mark bonfire night. The city's free display on Southsea Common is also likely to make a return - though the council has hinted it is looking again at an event in Cosham. | IslandCity.UK Photo: IslandCity.uk

22. Remembrance Sunday
The Remembrance Sunday Service on November 9 in Portsmouth's Guildhall Square will be preceded by a parade of veterans, military personnel and youth groups in the Guildhall Square at 10.30am. At 11am there will be a two-minute silence followed by the service. A wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph will conclude the morning’s events. This event is open to all members of the public. | Keith Woodland (101121-260)

23. Festive fun
With festive markets, ice skating and light switch-on events there is no shortage of Christmas magic to be had across the Portsmouth area. More details will be announced nearer the time. | Alex Shute
