Sean Raggett grabbed two – the second a stunner – while Terry Devlin also netted, but they should have been well out of sight against the 10-man Fulham Under-21s.
The brilliance of goalkeeper Alex Borto and poor finishing prevented them bagging many more, nonetheless it was still a highly-encouraging attacking display.
Here are our Pompey player ratings from an entertaining game...
5. Jack Sparkes - 8
A strong attacking display from left-back to really put pressure on Connor Ogilvie. His first-half corner was netted by Raggett and overall dead-ball delivery was very good. Growing into life at Pompey encouragingly. Photo: Jason Brown
6. Portsmouth defender Zak Swanson (2) during the EFL Trophy match between Portsmouth and Fulham at Fratton Park, Portsmouth, England on 22 August 2023.

7. Ben Stevenson - 7
Kept the ball and passed it to his team-mates, fulfilling his role impressively, albeit not always eye-catching. During one rare venture forward, forced the keeper into a second with a second-half shot. Photo: Jason Brown
8. Terry Devlin - 8
What an introduction to Fratton Park. Capped his maiden competitive outing at home with a bullet header for Pompey’s second goal and an overall encouraging display. Hard-working, full of energy and box-to-box, it was a great chance to see the summer signing in action after one previous Blues outing. Photo: Jason Brown
