It’s an overhaul of the playing squad which head coach Danny Cowley thought was necessary – and yet more could follow as the Blues remain open to offers for those who remain.
Some of those 14 have found new clubs, some will remain at their parent clubs after a short stint at Fratton, while others’ future’s remain up in the air.
So what has happened to those let go by Pompey since that crushing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Accrington on May 9? Is there more to come, with the transfer window still stuck in second gear? Here, we find out...

5. Ben Close (Central midfield)
Another midfielder who has waved goodbye to Pompey in recent weeks. The Blues turned down an option on the Southsea lad's contract, instead offering a two-year deal on reduced terms. That led to Close exploring his options and subsequently landing a free transfer move to fellow League One side Doncaster Rovers on a three-year deal. Will be back at Fratton Park next season - but in the unfamiliar red and white colours of Donny. Photo: Habibur Rahman

6. Jack Whatmough (Central defender)
Whatmough's 13-year association with Pompey has ended after he agreed a free-transfer move to Wigan. His hometown club were not prepared to table more than a one-year dea, prompting the 24-year-old to sign for Wigan on a two-year contract. Photo: Dennis Goodwin

7. George Byers (Central Midfield)
The 25-year-old midfielder never lived up to the hype following his January loan arrival from Swansea. Some would argue he wasn't given a sustained spell in the side to showcase his capabilities. As a result a stylish assist for Ronan Curtis' winner at home to Bristol Rovers will be what he's best remembered for at Fratton Park. Has returned to Swansea following the end of the season. Isn't involved in any transfer talk at the moment, with many Swans fans on social media hoping he gets another chance at the Liberty Stadium next season. Photo: Joe Pepler

8. Harvey White (Central midfield)
The sixth central-midfielder to leave Fratton Park following the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, which leaves Danny Cowley well short in that area. There could be a route back for the Spurs youngster, though, with Cowley already stating that he's held talks with the Premier League side about a possible return. Photo: Portsmouth FC
