With 97 points and just five defeats, it has been a remarkable season for John Mousinho’s men, whose heroics have etched them into Blues folklore.
Here’s our overall ratings and assessment of the 31 first-team players involved in Pompey’s memorable 2023-24 campaign...

25. Gavin Whyte - 6.5
(33 games, one goal)Arguably Pompey's marquee signing of the summer following his arrival from Cardiff on a free transfer, which makes his lack of consistent impact even more of a disappointment. Hard-working, full of endeavour and an excellent dressing-room presence, yet little has gone right for the Northern Ireland international, who still has two years remaining on his deal. With his young family living back in Belfast, it has clearly been a testing time for Mousinho's former Oxford United team-mate and perhaps should be taken into account. Whyte has struggled to create, score and assist, although he came off the bench at Peterborough to lay on Kusini Yengi's crucial 77th-minute winner in a fine cameo. Photo: Jason Brown

26. Anthony Scully - 6
(9 games, 0 goals)The luckless winger sustained a knee injury on the opening day against Bristol Rovers and initially tried to play through it, eventually requiring an operation and ruling him out until December. Has struggled to come back from that and make just one appearance in 2024. Pompey fans have never truly seen him injury-free and at his best, which is frustrating for all concerned. Such high hopes when he arrived, especially considering an excellent record at Lincoln the last time Scully was in League One. Photo: Jason Brown

27. Josh Martin - 6.5
(9 games, 0 goals)Was living with his girlfriend and her parents in Warblington and training in local parks before text Rich Hughes and registering his interest in joining Pompey. Martin subsequently arrived on trial in September and earned two short-term deals, lasting until the end of the season. Missed a one-on-one against Blackpool in November which perhaps could have been a sliding doors moment for his Blues career. Subsequently had a flurry of outings, but failed to make the squad in the final month as injured players returned. Popular figure around the club and rarely without a smile, there have been glimpses on his talent, but he has largely lacked the platform. Photo: CameraSport - David Horton

28. Paddy Lane - 9
(45 games, 12 goals)There were definite glimpses of his ability after arriving from Fleetwood in January 2023, yet this season the winger has proven a revelation. Lane has enjoyed the best goal-scoring year of his life, while also claimed seven assists, thriving either on the right flank or, latterly, on the left. Hard-working and a true team player, has looked a little tired during the run-in following a sensational February which saw him score four times in four games. However, Lane was restored to the starting XI for the final game at Lincoln and claimed an assist and a goal. Can be a huge asset in the Championship next season. Photo: Jason Brown
