With 97 points and just five defeats, it has been a remarkable season for John Mousinho’s men, whose heroics have etched them into Blues folklore.
Here’s our overall ratings and assessment of the 31 first-team players involved in Pompey’s memorable 2023-24 campaign...

9. Ryley Towler - 7
(11 games, one goal)Initially started the season ahead of Conor Shaughnessy, lining up alongside Regan Poole in the centre of defence against Bristol Rovers. The following match at Forest Green in the Carabao Cup, Shaughnessy replaced him as the left-sided centre-half and remained there for the rest of the campaign. Having made an impressive entrance in the second half of the previous season following his arrival from Bristol City, Towler's appearances were restricted and, when he did feature, was understandably unable to build up momentum. Handed only his third League One start of the season last weekend against Lincoln, he turned in a man-of-the-match display to remind us what a class act he is. Still highly-regarded at the club. 10. Regan Poole - 8
(16 games, three goals)Was clearly an early Player of the Season contender at the time of his ACL injury at Chesterfield in November which cruelly ruled the Welshman out for the rest of the campaign. At that point the former Manchester United player had impressed with his tenacity, comfort on the ball and consistency, operating at right-sided centre-half alongside Conor Shaughnessy. Such had been his outstanding form at the time of his injury, he had recently broken into Wales' international side. A class act, he can be a huge player for the Blues in the Championship. 11. Sean Raggett - 9
(44 games, three goals)Found himself behind Regan Poole and then Tom McIntyre, with injury on each occasion providing a way back into the side as Pompey's right-sided centre-half. As ever, the lion-hearted 30-year-old fought back magnificently, admirably evolving his game to become far better in possession and establishing himself as one of the Blues' best performers as they became champions. An absolute colossus at the back, dominant in the air, and unquestionably one of the finest defenders in League One. His stunning long-range goal against Fulham under-21s in the EFL Trophy in August also stands out. Hugely popular among the Fratton Park during five Blues campaigns so far, Raggett was voted runner-up in The News/Sports Mail's Player of the Season. What a player, what a man. Photo: Jason Brown

12. Conor Shaughnessy - 9.5
(49 games 4 goals)Recruited on a free transfer from Burton and one of the signings of the season for Pompey. The Irishman didn't even make the Blues squad for the opening match of the season against Bristol Rovers, with Ryley Towler preferred, yet soon became one of the first names on the team-sheet. Defensively magnificent, ridiculously consistent and classy on the ball, Shaughnessy epitomises the way Mousinho wants his Pompey side to play football. Capable of weighing in with important goals, none more so than the 89th-minute header which clinched the League One title against Barnsley. Deservedly included in the EFL League One Team of the Season and voted by his Pompey team-mates as Players' Player of the Year. The man has entered Pompey folklore. Photo: Jason Brown
