It means Southampton are returning to the Premier League following a 1-0 triumph, while Leeds miss out and will face Pompey for two matches in the 2024-25 season.
For the Blues, their first Championship campaign for 12 years will see them come across some familiar faces, namely 20 former Fratton Park players.
Some are favourites, others instantly forgettable, while you may not have ever heard of a few – and here they are...

9. Ross McCrorie (Bristol City)
Pompey: 23 games, 0 goalsEndured an injury-hit season-long loan from Rangers in 2019-20, when he also found himself being played out of position at right-back, despite being a central midfielder. Started the League One play-off semi-final first leg against Oxford United in July 2020, yet proved to be his last outing before returning to Scotland. Has since represented Aberdeen and Bristol City, making 22 games for the latter after recovering from injury. Picture: Joe Pepler Photo: Joe Pepler

10. Owen Dale (Oxford United)
Pompey: 50 games, two goalsOwen Dale could never be faulted for effort, work-rate and attitude during his 2022-23 loan from Blackpool, yet in terms of goals and assists, the numbers didn't stack up. He returned to Fratton Park this season with Blackpool, scoring in their 4-0 victory, before joining Oxford United in January. Since then, the winger won promotion to the Championship through the play-offs. Picture: Jason Brown/ProSportsImages Photo: Jason Brown

11. David Cornell (Preston)
Pompey: 0 gamesThe goalkeeper arrived on loan from Swansea in March 2015 for a month, but was never called upon. Instead he spent six matches as an unused substitute, the last of which, a 3-1 loss at Morecambe represented Andy Awford's final game as Pompey manager. He later represented Oldham, Northampton, Ipswich, Peterborough and Preston. The 33-year-old featured in two Championship games for Preston this season. Picture: Joe Pepler Photo: Joe Pepler

12. Abu Kamara (Norwich)
Pompey: 52 games, 10 goalsArrived at Fratton Park on a season-long loan following three substitute outings in the Premier League for Norwich and the winger proved a revelation. By his own admission, it was a slow start but the 20-year-old soon established himself as a pivotal performer in the League One title success, appearing in every fixture. Now expected to push for the Canaries' first-team following their Championship play-off failure and a new boss in the pipeline. Picture: Jason Brown/ProSportsImages Photo: Jason Brown
