It means Southampton are returning to the Premier League following a 1-0 triumph, while Leeds miss out and will face Pompey for two matches in the 2024-25 season.
For the Blues, their first Championship campaign for 12 years will see them come across some familiar faces, namely 20 former Fratton Park players.
Some are favourites, others instantly forgettable, while you may not have ever heard of a few – and here they are...

5. Ryan Allsop (Hull)
Pompey: 2 games, 0 goalsWith Pompey hit by a goalkeeping crisis, Allsop was drafted in as an emergency loan for their two-legged play-off semi-final clash with Plymouth in May 2016. Unfortunately, it didn't pay off and the then-Bournemouth keeper's mistakes cost Paul Cook's side as they were eliminated 3-2 on aggregate. Although his time at Fratton Park won't be fondly remembered, Allsop has gone on to feature for Blackpool, Lincoln, Wycombe, Derby, Cardiff and now Hull. He played 38 times for the Tigers this season. Picture: Joe Pepler Photo: Joe Pepler

6. Josh Griffiths (West Brom)

His Fratton Park replacement was Matt Macey. Never convinced some members of the Fratton faithful after arriving following Gavin Bazunu's successful loan. The 22-year-old made three appearances for the Baggies this season, none arriving in the Championship. Picture: Jason Brown/ProSportsImages Photo: Jason Brown

7. Cam Pring (Bristol City)
Pompey: 15 games, 0 goalsRecruited on a season-long loan from Bristol City in 2020-21, the left-back competed with Lee Brown for the position under Kenny Jackett. However, midway through his stay, he was recalled to challenge for a Robins spot in their Championship season. 8. Jed Wallace (West Brom)
Pompey: 121 games, 30 goalsThe Academy graduate was handed his first-team opportunity in the aftermath of cash-strapped Pompey removing all senior players off their wage bill to avoid liquidation. Wallace subsequently thrived, becoming a regular starter over the next three seasons. He left for Wolves in May 2015 after finishing as 17-goal top scorer and The News/Sports Mail Player Of The Season. Has subsequently won promotion through the League One play-offs with Millwall and the 30-year-old has spent the last two seasons with West Brom. Picture: Joe Pepler Photo: Joe Pepler
