'This isn't fake news. Promotion charge starts now' - how the Fratton faithful reacted to Portsmouth's win at QPR and maiden Championship victory
Pompey fans on social media are making themselves heard – and rightly so, after the Blues secured their first win of the Championship season.
John Mousinho’s side went into the Loftus Road game bottom of the table after Cardiff beat Plymouth 5-0 at lunchtime. However, their presence there didn’t last long, thanks to their come-from-behind victory against the Rs.
Former Blues target Karamoko Dembele put the hosts ahead early in the first half as a 10th game without a win looked on the cards. But showing the sort of spirit that helped them win League One last season, Pompey rose to the challenge and secured a 2-1 triumph thanks to goals either side of half-time from Freddie Potts and the returning Callum Lang (penalty).
It was the perfect response ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Cardiff and next Friday’s Fratton Park head-to-head against Sheffield Wednesday. And, oh, how the Fratton faithful enjoyed it as they celebrated their first competitive victory since beating Lincoln on the final day of last season.
Here’s how they reacted on X, formerly Twitter, as Pompey give their season the kiss of life many had been hoping for...
@JAudley89: Who’s need a 46-game season to get the points to stay up when you can be very #Pompey & do it 36 games instead!! Get in there!!!!
@BenfieldTim: Take that all day, fight, determination and grit! 3 points! Here we go big week ahead!!
@NotMiltos: SEASON. STARTS. NOW.
@dangodfrey_: Get the feeling that’s setting the ball rolling for a Pompey side who’ve been unlucky on so many occasions this season. They’ll be fine. And they’ll be playing Southampton next season.
@PO4PompeyStats: Fair play to the players, they grafted out there for that Pompey win. Doesn’t matter it wasn’t the prettiest or most convincing, the 3 points are all that matters. Lang was outstanding, made things happen & Yengi coming on looked like he’s back at it, powerful & in your face.
@capfc11: Massive win!! The players worked hard for that!!
@ant_hughesy: That 1st win pressure now gone. Let’s kick on.
@sweetstuff275: First win of the season, hopefully the kick start to our season that we’ve been looking for.
@grantoneill1992: About time... promotion charge starts now.
@DDeane41: This isn’t fake news! We’ve secured 3 pts.
