And in his time at the Fratton helm, Danny Cowley has turned to a large number of players on the pitch.
In fact, there’s been 41 men used by the Blues boss since he succeeded Kenny Jackett.
Of those 33 have played five or more times, giving a reasonable basis to assess their performances with the star and crescent on their chests.
So after that landmark 50th game with Pompey sweeping past relegation-threatened Doncaster, we’ve searched through our ratings database to see who’s performed best – and worst – under the former Lincoln boss as well as looking at who’s played the most.
Here’s what we’ve found.

17. Marcus Harness - 6.7
The ex-Burton man has played in 44 of Cowley’s opening 50 games in charge and is Pompey’s top scorer this season. He has been used as a number 10 but has been let down by the inconsistency of his performances, which has seen him miss the last two games. Photo: Stephen Flynn

18. Andy Cannon - 6.7
Cannon played 10 times under Cowley last season and was graded out of six of those performances. He was released by the Blues in the summer and joined newly promoted Hull where he has played 10 times in the Championship this campaign. Photo: Joe Pepler

19. Lee Brown - 6.7
The popular left-back was a regular under the new Pompey boss last term before picking up an injury. Brown played 31 times for Cowley primarily in his unnatural position at left wing-back and was ultimately sold to AFC Wimbledon last month where he has played four times for the Wombles. 20. Ryan Williams - 6.8
The Australian was another player favoured by the new boss at the end of last term, playing 11 out of Cowley’s first 12 games as boss. Like many others, he failed to renegotiate a new deal with the south coast side and joined Oxford, where he has featured 23 times this season. Photo: Joe Pepler
