And in his time at the Fratton helm, Danny Cowley has turned to a large number of players on the pitch.
In fact, there’s been 41 men used by the Blues boss since he succeeded Kenny Jackett.
Of those 33 have played five or more times, giving a reasonable basis to assess their performances with the star and crescent on their chests.
So after that landmark 50th game with Pompey sweeping past relegation-threatened Doncaster, we’ve searched through our ratings database to see who’s performed best – and worst – under the former Lincoln boss as well as looking at who’s played the most.
Here’s what we’ve found.

29. Joe Morrell - 7.2
The Welsh international has been another of Pompey’s standout signings from last summer playing a key role in the centre of midfield. Out of his 25 appearances this season we graded him on 22 of his outings which marked him joint second highest in the Blues’ ranks. Photo: Nigel Keene

30. Connor Ogilvie - 7.2
The ex-Gillingham man has been one of the surprises of the season, filling in at centre-back in the absence of Downing and Robertson. After playing 25 times this season he deservedly sits as the joint second highest rated player to play under Cowley. Photo: Robin Jones

31. Ronan Curtis - 7.2
Curtis has played 45 of Cowley’s first 50 games in charge of Pompey and has been one of Cowley’s go-to men for goals. Despite his goal record dropping this term, the Blues boss has helped the Irishman develop and mould him into a striker next to George Hirst. Photo: Jason Brown

32. Sean Raggett - 7.3
It is no surprise that Sean Raggett has been the highest rated player under Cowley, playing in 48 out of the Blues boss’ first 50 games in charge. He has been trusted at the centre of defence and has been pivotal in Pompey’s clean sheet record which sees them keep the most in League One this season. His only two missed appearances were against Accrington on the final day last season and his suspension against Gillingham in November. Photo: Joe Pepler
