And in his time at the Fratton helm, Danny Cowley has turned to a large number of players on the pitch.
In fact, there’s been 41 men used by the Blues boss since he succeeded Kenny Jackett.
Of those 33 have played five or more times, giving a reasonable basis to assess their performances with the star and crescent on their chests.
So after that landmark 50th game with Pompey sweeping past relegation-threatened Doncaster, we’ve searched through our ratings database to see who’s performed best – and worst – under the former Lincoln boss as well as looking at who’s played the most.
Here’s what we’ve found.

9. Ryan Tunnicliffe - 6.4
The central midfielder had a flying start to his Blues career, contributing to all four of Pompey’s first four league goals. The 29-year-old missed a large chunk of the season due to injury and has made 20 appearances this season and was marked based on 19 of those. Photo: Joe Pepler

10. Shaun Williams - 6.4
The experienced central midfielder had been a regular feature in the Blues engine room but is set to remain sidelined for an extended period after fracturing his spine. He’s made 30 outings this season and has been graded on 25 of those giving him a score of 6.4. Photo: Jason Brown

11. George Hirst - 6.4
George Hirst is the fourth player to be given a 6.4 grade and, like Williams, has been marked from 25 out of his 30 outings this season. Despite a slow start, the Leicester loanee was trusted by Cowley to lead the line and scored his fifth of the season on Saturday against Doncaster. Photo: Joe Pepler

12. Ben Close - 6.5
The Pompey academy graduate played 11 times under Cowley last season and was one of the regular members of the squad that the new boss trusted. Despite this, Close failed to renegotiate a new deal with the Blues and joined Doncaster but has missed large parts of the season through injury. Photo: Jason Brown
