However, over the last decade, just 20 Blues first-team players have departed for transfer fees – with only two fetching more than £750,000.
While Jamal Lowe, Matt Clarke, Jed Wallace, Adam Webster, Marcus Hardness and Conor Chaplin represented big windfalls, there are other small sales you have probably forgotten about.
So here are the 20 Pompey players sold since the summer of 2015...

5. Ellis Harrison - January 2021
A £425,000 recruit from Ipswich in the same window which saw Pompey also splash out heavily on John Marquis and Marcus Harrison, the striker never managed to live up to expectations. With six months remaining of his contract and no prospect of that being extended, the Blues let him depart for Fleetwood in January 2021 in a cut-price deal. He left Fleetwood after eight months when sold to Port Vale and has since featured for MK Dons and on loan at Walsall, although is now a free agent. Photo: Joe Pepler

6. Jack Sparkes - July 26, 2024
Having arrived as a free transfer from Exeter, he played 43 times in Pompey’s League One title-winning season, mainly as a replacement for the injured Connor Ogilvie. With Ogilvie well over his injury issues and Jacob Farrell’s imminent arrival from Melbourne Coast Mariners, John Mousinho opted to reduce his left-back department and sold Sparkes to Peterborough for an undisclosed amount in July 2024. He struggled at London Road and was loaned to Chesterfield just six months later. Now back at Peterborough, the left-back has been transfer-listed this summer. Photo: Jason Brown

7. Tom Davies - August 31, 2017
Something of a forgotten man from the 2016-17 League Two title-winning team, yet made 15 appearances, including 12 starts. However, he found his opportunities blocked due the centre-half excellence of Christian Burgess and Matt Clarke. Davies featured once in the opening six games of the 2017-18 under new boss Kenny Jackett and was sold to League Two Coventry in August 2017 for an undisclosed fee. Having won the League Two play-offs with Coventry in his first season, Davies went on to feature for Bristol Rovers, Barrow and Tranmere. He is now available on a free transfer. Photo: Joe Pepler

8. Adam Barton - August 31, 2016
Having arrived on a free transfer in the summer of 2015, Paul Cook converted the cultured midfielder into a central defender during a late-season injury crisis. Then, just seven games into the 2016-17 campaign, Barton was sold to Patrick Thistle for an undisclosed fee in August 2016. Barton's became a nomadic career, moving to Dundee United, Connah's Quay, Wrexham, Farsley AFC and last season turned out for Curzon Ashton. Photo: Joe Pepler
