Some tough decisions will be required if the Fratton Park outfit are to return next season with a squad more equipped to challenge for promotion.
And it’s a process that will kick off more or less immediately after Pompey’s final game of the season against Wycombe on Sunday, May 7.
Calls on those first-team players who are now in the final weeks of their contracts have to be made.
But that’s not the start and finish line as far as outgoings are concerned.
The Blues are realistic to know that others within their current ranks could attract interest from elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the decision could be taken to sell others on – those deemed not natural fits for the project at hand.
But what potential departures could we see amid another Pompey overhaul?
We take a look to see what players could realistically be elsewhere by the time the 2023-24 season begins.

13. Harry Jewitt-White
The young midfielder made his full league debut for the Blues in last week's 1-0 win against Accrington. However, his inclusion that day comes amid uncertainty over the academy product's immediate future. Indeed, he's entering the final weeks of his existing deal, with a club decision on his future yet to be made public. We wait and see what the outcome is! Photo: Jason Brown

14. Colby Bishop
Pompey's top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions to date, there'll naturally be interest in the striker come the summer. Pompey have no need to sell the former Accrington man. That said, director Eric Eisner told The News in March that they would at least listen to offers. And if valuations are met or exceeded, then it's hard to see the Blues turning lucrative offers down. That's a decision that would prove hugely unpopular with the Fratton faithful. Ipswich are among the clubs to have been linked with Bishop. Photo: Jason Brown

15. Jayden Reid
The unfortunate 22-year-old is yet to feature for the Blues in a competitive game after back-to-back ACL injuries. His contract is up at the end of the season, with both head coach John Mousinho and sporting director Rich Hughes yet to see him play. A tough decision lies in wait, but one that might be delayed until pre-season when there will hopefully be a chance of seeing Reid in action. Photo: Nigel Keene

16. Michael Jacobs
Jacobs' skill set is rightfully admired by the Fratton faithful. The only problem is, we don't see what he's capable off on a consistent basis. Four goals and two assists from 30 league games played this season wasn't enough to get Pompey into the play-offs this term. And as the Blues look for attacking reinforcements in the summer to bolster their threat levels, it's only natural that Jacobs' future Photo: Jason Brown
