It’s a staggering statistic the Blues are keen to address as they seek to recruit their first permanent stopper since Craig MacGillivray departed in the summer of 2021.
A permanent deal for Matt Macey is on their wishlist, yet free agent Will Norris and others are also being looked at by sporting director Rich Hughes and head coach John Mousinho.
For too long, Pompey have been reliant on loanees to keep goal, understandably some of which you may never recall. And here they are...

5. David Forde (July 2016-May 2017)
With Paul Cook struggling to identify a goalkeeper of the necessary quality, returning goalkeeping coach John Keeley pinpointed Millwall’s Forde as the answer. The veteran joined on a season-long loan from the Championship club and was an ever-present in the side which claimed the League Two title, totalling 47 appearances. He returned to The Den at the end of the season before joining Cambridge United on a free transfer in July 2017, playing 71 times before retiring it the summer of 2019. 6. Stephen Henderson (January 2018)
Signed on loan from Crystal Palace on deadline day in January 2018, with Kenny Jackett seeking an alternative to Luke McGee. It represented Henderson’s second spell at Fratton Park, having previously been sold to West Ham in May 2012. However, late into a second Blues debut, he was forced off against Doncaster through injury to be replaced by attacker Kal Naismith in goal with Pompey having used all their substitutions. The injury cut short his loan spell and the Irishman later represented Wycombe and Charlton. Picture: Joe Pepler Photo: Joe Pepler

7. Gavin Bazunu (July 2021-May 2022)
After Danny Cowley opted to release Craig MacGillivray in the summer of 2021, he identified Manchester City’s Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper as a replacement. Gavin Bazunu had spent the previous season on loan at Rochdale, who had been relegated from League Two, yet his growing reputation was not impacted. The Irishman made 46 appearances, finished as runner-up in The News/Sports Mail’s Player Of The Season and also claimed the Players’ Player Of The Year. He was sold to Southampton for £12m in June 2022 and suffered relegation from the Premier League in his first St Mary’s campaign. Picture: Jason Brown/ProSportsImages Photo: Jason Brown

8. Josh Griffiths (July 2022-January 2023)
Danny Cowley sought to recruit another goalkeeper on a season-long loan, so chose West Brom’s England under-21 international Josh Griffiths. Following successful stints at Cheltenham and Lincoln, he was challenged with replacing Gavin Bazunu, but struggled to win over some Pompey followers. West Brom elected to recall the 21-year-old in January and the following month handed him his Baggies debut as he featured 10 times in the second half of their Championship campaign.
