Transfer gossip: Championship rivals Wrexham 'readying' deadline-day bid for Portsmouth favourite as interest grows
Pompey’s Terry Devlin has growing interest from Championship rivals Wrexham, who are reportedly readying a bid.
A frenetic deadline day is in store at Fratton Park as Pompey gear up for a hugely-important end to the transfer window.
Departures have also been touted, including Tom McIntyre, Callum Lang and Jordan Archer, who have all been tipped with a possible exit.
Terry Devlin has growing interest in his services following an outstanding start to the campaign.
Championship rivals readying Terry Devlin bid
The article suggested the Northern Irishman is one of two possibilities on Phil Parkinson’s shopping list as the head coach looks to strengthen in the final knockings of the window.
However, a fresh claim from Football League World has revealed the Red Dragons are now ‘readying’ a bid for Devlin before the 7pm deadline.
It has been suggested a £2m offer would be enough to prise the former Glentoran man away from Fratton Park in the window.
Parkinson is hoping to recruit the four-cap Northern Ireland international to provide competition to Issa Kabore, who has recently returned from an injury lay-off.
Pompey, though, are in a commanding position over Devlin, who penned a new long-term deal on the south coast in February 2025.
The right-back’s terms extended his stay at PO4 until the summer of 2028, meaning the Blues still hold two-and-a-half years on his current contract.
The young talent has excelled in the Championship this season, which has seen him establish himself on the right-hand side of Mousinho’s backline.
The 2023 arrival has totalled 25 appearances for the Blues in all competitions to date, netting on three occasions.
During his two-and-a-half-year stay at Fratton, Devlin has totalled 86 outings while also solidifying himself as a firm fan favourite due to him impressive versatility.
Thoughts on a potential Terry Devlin exit
Devlin has started 14 of Pompey’s 15 matches in all competitions, with his only absence coming due to suspension.
The full-back has grown significantly in confidence as the campaign has gone on and cemented himself as Mousinho’s first choice, with Jordan Williams settling for a place on the bench.
The chances of an exit with less than seven hours to go in the window are extremely low, with the Blues looking to strengthen.
It would take an extraordinary deal for the football operations at Fratton Park to consider a possible exit this late in the market.
A potential departure, though, could present itself in the summer, given Pompey’s trading model of selling players on with a good fee.
Devlin, of course, ticks a number of those boxes, given his youth, potential and current value, which will no doubt continue to rise over the second half of the season.
