'Heading for potential humiliation. This lot are folding': Clear Southampton verdict ahead of huge Portsmouth contest

Southampton supporters have taken to social media to voice their concerns ahead of Sunday’s south-coast derby against Pompey.

Fratton Park plays host for the latest instalment as John Mousinho’s men lock horns with their fierce rivals at PO4 for the first time since 2019.

Indeed, the Blues are enjoying an impressive turnaround in form, which has seen them lose just one of their previous seven league matches.

A midweek draw away to play-off hopefuls Watford lifted Pompey back out of the relegation zone and now sit one point aboev 22nd-placed Blackburn Rovers.

Meanwhile, Southampton make the short trip across the M27 on a worrying run of form, with a 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Wednesday representing their first in eight matches.

This has heaped pressure on new boss Tonda Eckert, who only succeeded Will Still on a permanent basis in December, with the Saints dropping down the table in recent weeks.

Despite the midweek victory, Saints fans aren’t too optimistic over their side’s chances at Fratton Park on Sunday as they vie for south-coast supremacy.

We’ve taken a look at what Southampton supporters have been posting on social media in the build-up to this weekend’s derby. Here’s the best of the reaction from X.

Southampton verdict ahead of Pompey derby

@SFCTom123: These Saints players are going to absolutely crumble at Fratton Park. No bottle, no trust and no faith. 90% of these players do not deserve the saints jersey on their back.

@JoshR1988: Our useless players are gonna bottle it big time. The narrative that we have ex prem players isn’t really fair we got 12 points so weren’t competitive at all. The worst Saints side I’ve seen in 15 years, we are terrible. You turn up, you smash us

@FootballMartin_: As it stands, we are heading for potential humiliation at Fratton. We have been to Norwich and Oxford and failed to get results against teams in the bottom three. We are desperate for leadership and we need it quickly before this season completely implodes.

@saintlavoo: One thing is for sure. This lot are folding at Fratton Park.

@Saints_4eva: We need players with bottle. The team needs to fight for every yard, we need leaders. We have none of that in our team, Fratton Park will be bouncing and I have no faith that any of our players will cope with it.

@PAULBAK43998429: We can all see it coming, sad thing is anyone watching on Sky will see it to. In a way I feel sorry for the fans who are going to have to watch it.

@HanksMartin: If they press like the Arsenal game we will get battered like the Boro game second half of that match from the kick off .

@jamie_pragnell: If we lose at Fratton Park then it genuinely won’t bother me in the slightest - it will be a result that Sport Republic fully deserve after their shambolic leadership of the club. It pains me to say that as well but that’s the way things are.

@WadeJake42398: A humiliation at Portsmouth might be the only thing that will get this fanbase to fully turn on the owners and start to protest and do something about them.

@Scummer1985: Genuinely the first time I've got no hope or interest in the saints Pompey game, our gutless lot will fold this Sunday and probably another manager gone also, probably the most gutless squad I've ever seen wear a saints top.
