‘So much more about them’: Sky Sports pundit’s big Portsmouth billing after huge Charlton Athletic triumph

Pompey claimed a 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening.

Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff has lauded Portsmouth’s outstanding display against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening.

After successive defeats to Preston North End and Sheffield United, John Mousinho’s men returned to winning ways in emphatic style at The Valley.

The right-back then grabbed a third for Pompey early in the second half, with a powerful 30-yard effort in front of the 2,500 travelling members of the Fratton faithful in the packed-out away end.

The triumph also stretches their advantage over the relegation zone, with four points now the difference to 22nd-placed Leicester City.

McAnuff, who enjoyed an outstanding career in the Championship with Cardiff City, Reading, Leyton Orient and more, was hugely impressed by Pompey’s display away from home.

And speaking on Sky Sports News after the triumph, the former Jamaica international insisted Mousinho’s men ‘fully deserved’ the maximum points in south London.

When asked whether the Blues had any issues seeing off the Addicks, he said: ‘No and that’s putting it lightly. Only two wins before tonight away from home and it has been a real problem.

‘Goalscoring in general has been a real problem, actually played well the last couple of games, but haven’t got the results due to a lack of finishing.

‘But tonight, what a way to get off to a start (Terry Devlin’s first goal). Talk about a gift from Thomas Kaminski, that is such poor goalkeeping.

‘He doesn’t do anything in terms of getting his body in front of the ball, just lets it squirm through his legs and really from that point Portsmouth really kicked on.

‘They were the better team and so much more about them in the final third.

‘I feel this (the penalty) is harsh on Amari’i Bell. There’s nothing he can do to get his arm out of the way, it’s really close proximity.

‘The referee does give it and Colby Bishop, really in need of goals, stepped up and slipped it away. (Pompey) Going into half-time fully, fully deserving of the 2-0 lead.

‘They come out in the second half and Terry Devlin, what a night he had. Maybe fortunate with the first one but no such thing what a strike.

‘Brilliant effort and catches it so clean, Kaminski nowhere near that one.

‘This was the moment when you feel Charlton going to get back in it. Set-pieces were their most likely avenue, Fevrier came on and made a really good impact.

‘But, Portsmouth really did a good job of just shutting it down, seeing it through and a big, big three points and well deserved three points.’
