The Blues have developed some sizable Championship assets now, while John Mousinho has indicated ‘significant figures’ will need to be spent if the club are to progress at the level.
So we’ve assessed five players who, for one reason or another, may well be best suited to moving on in the months ahead - and five who need to remain come the close of the summer window.

9. Ibane Bowat
Pompey are absolutely stacked with centre-backs with six out-and-out options there, in addition to the likes of Connor Ogilvie being able to move across from left-back. Regan Poole and Conor Shaughnessy are the front-liners, with Madiodio Dia and Hayden Matthews seemingly next in line at present. That, of course, could change in pre-season with Josh Knight and Ibane Bowat the other considerations. With Bowat now having a season of fitness after his terrible knee injury, he’ll be looking regular football somewhere next term if it’s not at PO4. | Getty Images

10. Harvey Blair
There were high hopes Harvey Blair could impact the first team last season, following a campaign of adjustment after his £300,000 capture from Liverpool. That didn’t quite happen amid more injury frustration and just four starts, with 15 appearances in total. As Blair moves into the final year of his three-year contract, the bright and friendly character needs to first show he’s robust enough to put a run of games together. That makes a loan exit the ideal platform to do so. | Simon Roe/ProSportsImages

11. Terry Devlin
Pompey fans would love to see the Northern Ireland international stay, but there’s a recognition that selling Devlin may well be the way to go this summer - at the right price. A £2m bid was knocked back by Wrexham in January and the 22-year-old’s stock has grown since then with international recognition and sweeping the board with player of the season honours. The suspicion is Wrexham will return, but they probably won’t be the only interested party and a bidding war would be lucrative for Pompey. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
