The names were coming thick and fast, even before the Championship season ended.
And the flow of touted Pompey targets never let up from there, until the window closed on September 1.
We’ve pulled together a list of the players linked with the Blues, a little insight into their credibility and an update on what is now happening with those men - with some wildly varying results.

6. Hector Kyprianou
Mousinho was an admirer of the Peterborough midfielder. Not a player Pompey were ever close to signing though, underlined by Watford handing him a whopping five-year contract at Vicarage Road. | Getty Images
7. Charlie Savage
The seemingly annual Pompey link surfaced again, but has stayed with Reading where he's made 13 appearances this term. | Getty Images
8. Joe Ward
Another name to be touted for a Pompey move on more than one occasion, but stayed put with Derby and now involved more under John Eustace - making seven appearances and grabbing one goal this season. | Getty Images
