Pompey’s Championship season began with a disappointing 3-1 defeat to QPR.
John Mousinho’s men started superbly, taking a 15-minute lead through Terry Devlin’s stunning 30-yard strike - and had opportunities to add to that.
However, QPR responded with three goals in the last 12 minutes of the first half, all through poor defensive moments, with Ilias Chair (two) and Koki Saito registering.
Pompey could find no way back, despite introducing Josh Murphy and Ryan Kvumba-McQueen in the second half, and slumped to a Fratton Park defeat.

2. Nicolas Schmid - 6
Couldn’t do anything about any of the goals, with each down to extremely poor defending in front of him. A couple of decent stops, although fans do get irritated over the length of time he spends on the ball looking to pass it. | Simon Roe/ProSportsImages

3. Terry Devlin - 7 - Man of the Match
Stunning 30-yard strike to open the scoring for the Blues, then loses Chair inside the six-yard box for QPR’s leveller. Still, the goal he scored was a cracker and he put in a solid full 90 minutes, which many of his team-mates didn’t | Stephen Flynn/ProSportsImages

4. Conor Shaughnessy - 6
Unusually wasteful in front of goal for Pompey. One great first-half headed chance from Segecic’s corner hit his right shoulder, while after the break he put Segecic’s free-kick well wide from eight yards, dispute being unmarked. | Simon Roe/ProSportsImages
